Passive 3DTV takes a huge leap forward with most of the major 3DTV manufacturers launching Passive 3DTV models this year. Korean TV giant LG have developed their film patterned retarder technology (FPR) for passive 3D TV claiming that this new passive 3D technology gives the viewer a 3D experience equal to 3D Cinema. LG estimate that sales of their new 3D TV's will reach 17 million in 2011 compared to 3 million in 2010. Samsung, JVC, Phillips and Toshiba have all expressed great interest in the FPR system and are planning to launch their own Passive 3D TV's for the home market this year. US mega brand Vizio have already launched their Passive 3D Cinema TV's and report brisk sales. All i-3k Passive 3D Glasses are compatible with all of the new passive 3D TV's appearing on the high streets.
This year saw the annual CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2011 take place in Las Vegas. One of the most popular booths at the exhibition was Korean TV mega brand LG who unveiled their new range of Passive 3D TV's featuring LG's new film patterned retarder technology (FPR). Crowds were amazed at the quality of the new 3D TV's which are all compatible with the cheaper and lighter Passive 3D Glasses. Not only are LG launching 3D TV's but also have a stunning range of passive 3D laptops which are also compatible with the more versatile Passive 3D Glasses. Harry Potter fans were left disappointed last year when plans to screen "Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 1" in 3D were suddenly cancelled. The cancellation was due to time restraints as the studio felt they could not do the film the deserved justice in 3D with the limited time available before release. This year however they have achieved their initial plan and the final part in this blockbuster series, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2", will be released in July 2011 in glorious 3D. Don't forget that you can watch all the Latest 3D Releases at the Cinema with our i-3k Passive 3D Glasses which are all compatible with Passive 3D Cinema and 3DTV.
There have been several attempts since around 1905 for 3D to break the restrictions posed by 2D technology. These attempts to break through the boundaries and really bring 3D in to the Home or Cinema have never quite been strong enough. Until recently the problems with getting the masses to fully embrace 3D have been multi faceted including the lack of appropriate 3D Technologies, badly timed or designed commercial and residential ventures, minimal 3D content and not enough desire for 3D viewing.
With the new 3D technologies available and huge investment into 3D material we look set to enter what could be described as the first real golden age of 3D cinema and 3D TV. One example of this is Real D 3D consisting of technologies that were a mere fantasy 20 years ago.
The very distant future of 3D is 4D Holographic displays that require no 3D Glasses whatsoever, however for the next 5-10 years we will have two main choices for viewing our 3D Films or 3D Sports, and they are Passive 3D or Active 3D. We'll start with latter; Active 3D is available now and you may even have friends or families that have already purchased an Active 3D TV. Active 3D is currently some major manufacturers favourite as changing a standard TV to an Active 3D only takes a minor alteration at the factory level.
So why are they so pro Active? One example is Sony, with the PS3 being the best selling gaming console to date, combined with a Sony Blu Ray player (easily upgraded to have 3D capabilities), heres the answer,
around £100 per pair for the Sony Active 3D Glasses which are only compatible with the Sony Active 3D TV!
Drawing from 3D News, in our opinion the 3D Format that will prevail in this war will be the Passive 3D format. Passive 3D Glasses are more than 10 times cheaper than their active counterparts and are suitable for use with 3D Cinema, 3D Films at home, Sky 3D, Virgin 3D, Discovery 3D, Pubs and clubs offering 3D and because of the price and versatility of the 3D passive Glasses they can be used at major live musical events etc. Also Passive 3D Glasses are multi compatible meaning they work with all other brands and venues providing they are showing Passive 3D content.
At i-3k.com we have no doubt that the fantastic experience of 3D is here to stay and our opinion is validated by the billions of pounds invested and billions of pounds spent enjoying truly great 3D, with the multi compatability of the Passive 3D Glasses combined with low purchase cost means that Passive 3D is here to stay.
i-3k 3D Glasses range from £6.95 and are available by viewing our 3D Glasses online store.
