With Passive 3D Glasses being the most user friendly and Active 3D being the most easily obtainable (At present), we offer a complete, Informative and useful page to help the consumer understand the differences. Anaglyph 3D will always be popular simply because of the diversity of the format.

From stylish 3D Passive Glasses through to state of the art 3D Tv's Tec Lab will keep you informed of all technical developments.
Anaglyph 3D Glasses incorporate two different coloured lenses, usually red and blue or red and green. This 3D Format has been around for well over 70 years and still popular today. Anaglyph 3D Glasses can be used for 3D Art, 3D Comics, 3D Photography, 3D Films and 3D Computer games. The quality of Anaglyph 3D has improved somewhat over the years with 3D Films and 3D Games definitely coming up to standard. For more complex 3D Films or 3D Computer games you will find the Passive 3D or Active 3D Formats provide a better quality of detail and clarity. Please view our 3D Glasses or 3D Games pages for stylish Anaglyph 3D Glasses.
Passive 3D Glasses or Circular Polarised 3D Glasses incorporate opposing spirals of polarised light to produce the 3D effect for the viewer. Experts within the 3D field are of the opinion that Passive 3D technology will be the most widely used, and easily available 3D Format for consumers. Already being employed by 3D Cinemas (Real D) and the major satellite broadcasters including Sky 3D and Virgin 3D, Passive 3D systems provide excellent 3D viewing at a fraction of the cost of Active 3D systems. For your Passive 3D TV you will need these Passive 3D Glasses to view the content effectively. Please view our selection of stylish 3D Glasses on our 3D Glasses or 3D Games page. We stock wraparound 3D Glasses designed to include 3D peripheral vision for a far more impactive 3D experience.
Lastly we have the controversial Active 3D Glasses. This 3D System is “Active“ in that the 3D Glasses work in sync with transmitters incorporated into the 3D Glasses and Active 3D TV resulting in very heavy, almost clumsy 3D Glasses frames.
Each eye of the 3D Glasses alternates the image by flickering alternate images tricking the brain into creating a 3D Image. This 3D Technology is new and could possibly provide some problematic issues for the user. Firstly the signal needs to be continuous and uninterrupted which means if the user is out of range, turns or encounters an obstruction the 3D Image may stutter or freeze, This could prove a major issue for 3D Gaming. Even worse these Active 3D Glasses require batteries which could run out mid 3D Film/3D Game and also adds considerable maintenance costs to each pair. The cost of Active 3D Glasses start at approximately £100 per pair and may not prove financially viable for a family or group of friends.
Active 3D Glasses also are exclusive to the same brand 3D TV in terms of usage which means that you cannot simply visit your friends with your 3D Glasses for 3D Films or 3D Sport and use them with their 3D TV, On a more serious note, There are health issues being raised with Active 3D Systems.
In short it seems to us that the Active 3D System is not in the interest of the consumer or for that matter for 3D home entertainment, Active 3D Glasses offer no improvement on Passive 3D Glasses and up to ten times more expensive.

This answer ultimately depends on which area of 3D is of priority to you. Sony Blu Ray seem to be committed to Active 3D whereas LG and Sky 3D have recently formed to support the Passive 3D system. With 3D Glasses at roughly £100 per pair and possible health issues with the Active format our opinion is relatively easy. Passive 3D is better for the consumer hands down, due to the huge cost of Active 3D Glasses, and health concerns are always a worry for any new technology.
